WE JUST WANT TO LIVE is a collection of stories, writing, photography, and other art that explores the trauma and pain of transgender and queer violence. It tells the stories of evacuation, shows the success and failures of integration, and communicates the need for support for transgender refugees.

Car culture and transgender life are somewhat incompatible in Seattle and other urban areas, and the content of this site is targeted to people who want to understand how queer trauma and queer joy often find common ground through automotive enthusiasm.

My name is Brooke. I moved to Seattle twice, and both times were due to an intense urge to find community.I’ve been interested in car culture since I was a small child - the earliest “nice” toy I remember having was an R/C car of Dale Earnhardt’s #3. I enjoy photography, writing, driving, and researching, and assist the elderly for my day job.
